Thank you for your interest in this contest. It's been a long time since my last contest.
I checked into some of the coloring contests & came out with this.
Honestly I copied most of the rules from available contests here ;p.
My friend & great artist totmoartsstudio2 did the lineart specially for this contest :)
There is still more to do bcoz I need donors for this contest & so far I have some prizes.. Hope there will be more by time :)

:worker: I need a help in:
1. Donations!!</u>

:bulletblue: Subscriptions.
:bulletblue: Prints
:bulletblue: Avatars.
:bulletblue: Stamps.
:bulletblue: CSS
:bulletblue: Dedicated artworks.
:bulletblue: Commissions.
:bulletblue: features
or anything you can think of.

2. Promoting/Pimping this Contest.</u>

I'll truly appreciate all kind of support you offer & I'll feature your avatar in the Promoters/Supporters section in the contest.

Just send me a note with your donation & I'll add it to the prize list ;)

Contest Rules!
Very important!(Read Carefully).

:bulletred: Three colored ENTRIES per deviant allowed!

:bulletred: Donors Can participate.

:bulletred: Contestants must include a small tutorial or a step by step process of their entry, it will both prove that it’s their work and also help the artist community. Some examples: ditzzi.deviantart.com/art/Digi… or sayurikemiko.deviantart.com/ar… or tonikop.deviantart.com/art/Ano… or anyway you feel comfortable with.

:bulletred: You must color the lineart given, not anything else. This one is fairly obvious. Feel free to use any medium you like. You can use traditional, digital, image manipulation, whatever. Just as long as in the end the lineart is visible. Also, there are no rules whatsoever for the colors you will be using. That is entirely up to you. Be creative and have fun!

:bulletred: No changes should be made to the lineart, with the exception of subtle ones, like tinting the lineart, etc. You can also add extra shadows to the picture, if you think it would benefit your work, but nothing major. You can also paint over some of the line art (especially the background, a good control of this technique can really show the colorists skill).

:bulletred: If you're making it look like a painting it's ok to paint over the line art just make sure that its still recognizable. for example:

Little Juggy pencil sketch by Red-J Jay's Little Juggy by Norke

the colorist completely painted over the line art but still it is recognizable, its the same image just painted on.

:bulletred: You can present your entry in Black & White values, or even grayscale. Those are colors too, after all.

:bulletred: You can and should post your entry on dA as soon as it’s ready. Once that’s done, note me with the link to the entry. Otherwise, I probably won’t see it.

:bulletred: You must, on the description of the entry, mention the contest it’s for, and add a link to the artist lineart & the contest journal, so people can easily read the rules and get the lineart, should they wish to enter. Also mandatory in the description is the medium used. Example, if you did it traditionally, you should say if it was watercolor, acrylics, whatever. Digitally could be Photoshop, Painter, Illustrator, and so on.

:bulletred: All entries should be finished & submitted before February 28th 2009.

:sherlock: Judging:
Judges will be looking at the following:

:star: Coloring skills: If you are good at coloring, you have a better chance of winning, but this is not the only determining factor.

:star: Color template: Colors are more than just something to fill in the lines. the judges will be looking at the color scheme you use to see how you use them in different moods, catch the eye, increase or decrease contrast for effect, and generally strengthen the composition of the art.

:star: Lighting: This is always important in coloring. The use of lighting to make the picture light or dark, to set a mood, or make it more or less dramatic will influence the appeal of the piece.

:star: Composition of backgrounds and use or non use of negative space: Don't automatically think that in order to win, you have to make a background. Sometimes negative space is a good thing. (Negative space is basically the space with nothing in it.) For example, if you feel that the subject really needs to be the focus of the picture, you may choose to leave the background simple... or even blank. This might be a good idea if you put a lot of work into the subject and want that to be noticed. On the other hand, you may have a great idea for a background, and if it does indeed look great and compliment the picture in your opinion, then add it. This is an artistic choice that you must make.

The honorable judges:

:? How will my entry be rated?
All judges will rate your entry from 1 to 10, 1 being very poor, and 10 being awesome/perfect. Once all the entries have been rated, the winner will be the one whose average value is biggest.

On the unlikely case that there is a draw between the first 3 positions, totmoartsstudio2 vote counts twice for the average(In the end it's his work).
